About This Tour
As the sun sets behind the Golden Gate Bridge, board the ferry at Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing for one of the most sought-after experiences in the National Park system. The Night Tour departs in the late afternoon, giving you a front-row seat to a spectacular sunset over San Francisco Bay during the crossing. Once on the island, a ranger or volunteer guide leads a brief orientation before you make your way to the Cellhouse. Inside, the award-winning 'Doing Time' audio tour takes on an entirely new dimension in the evening quiet — the sound of cell doors slamming echoes through near-empty corridors, and shadows play across the concrete walls of Broadway, Michigan Avenue, and the notorious D Block solitary confinement cells.
