About This Tour
Step onto the dock at Alcatraz Island and walk the same path that America's most infamous criminals once walked. Your visit begins with a short but scenic ferry ride from Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing, offering panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline, Angel Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Once on the island, make your way up the steep road to the Cellhouse — the main prison building that once held prisoners like Al Capone, Robert 'Birdman' Stroud, and George 'Machine Gun' Kelly.

Important information
- Photo ID Required: The primary account holder must present a valid government-issued photo ID matching the name on the reservation to collect boarding passes at Pier 33. Tickets are strictly non-transferable.
- Arrive Early: Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled ferry departure time to allow for mandatory security screening and boarding. Ferries depart exactly on time and missed departures cannot be refunded.
- Mobility Assistance (S.E.A.T. Tram): The walk from the island dock to the Cellhouse is approximately ¼ mile uphill with a steep 130-foot elevation gain (equivalent to a 13-story building). For guests with physical disabilities or mobility limitations, a complimentary electronic shuttle (S.E.A.T. Tram) operates on a regular schedule from the dock to the prison entrance.
- Clothing: Dress in layers — San Francisco Bay weather is highly unpredictable, windy, and can change rapidly from warm to very cold, even on sunny days.
- Footwear: Wear sturdy, comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes. The island features uneven pavement, steep paths, and historical stairs.
- Food & Drink: No food consumption is permitted on Alcatraz Island outside of the immediate dock area. Light snacks and beverages are available for purchase only at Pier 33 before departure. (Personal water bottles are permitted everywhere).
- Return Ferries: Ferries return to Pier 33 roughly every 30 minutes throughout the day. You may stay on the island as long as you like, but you must keep track of the afternoon return schedules posted at the island dock to catch the final daytime ferry back.
- Unused Tickets: Unused tickets are non-refundable.
